Who's the Boss of Your Brand?

Like a Boss: LaLa Brand Coach

I know it has been a while, but some things have really shifted in my life and now is the time for me to catch you up. First, I had to become uncomfortable with a few things. I was sick, I moved, Hurricane Florence came swooshing in and next, I had someone to tell me that they were the boss of me. Well, needless to say, there are not any bosses in my world. I had to sit back and contemplate, not on the things that were shifting, but on the thought of someone thinking they had control over what I feel and do. I personally know that I am a free agent. Free to do what I want, when I want. I am a CEO, right? Well, their statement lingered in my thoughts and I started asking that question that I had tried to answer so many years ago...Who's really the boss?

Being a headstrong child, I never liked the fact that someone told me what to do. It was an unfathomable thought that had many,“Why won’t you just do as you're told" questions or "Why is everything a debate with you?" or "Just do as I say, not as I do!"statements that blared from my mom and dad. It’s funny, now that I look back on all of this. I was a very ornery child. The power struggles that I handed out were real, but everyone has put up a power struggle or two growing up, so who was the winner? Who took home the winning trophy to say they were the boss for the day?

As crazy as this may sound, I always felt like I won, except when it came to my parents...those I will say that I bowed down gracefully, just in case my mom so happens to be reading this. (We all know that I knew my limits. LOL!)

and move on, took a lot out of me when I was younger. I could apologize and move on, but again, the question still lingered in the air; who really won at being the boss? The thought of someone thinking they are the boss over my every thought or emotion NEVER sat well with me. So when this person told me they were the boss over me, I really had to say how I felt about it, not in a mean or disrespectful way, but in a professional way.

We have all worked hard to get where we are. Whether you are an employee or an executive, it took a lot of hard work, time and energy to get that position and no one should ever try to belittle you. I don't care how much money you make on your paycheck, people are people and we all have feelings. This is why I do not like using the word boss. Some people become a little more entitled than others when they get a little bit of power and extra money.

Now, for my subject in question, I had to remind them that I do not have a BOSS! I have a higher power that led me on an entrepreneurial journey to become a business owner. My God-given gift is to lead and transform the lives and businesses of others, not to be belittled or felt like my role in life is unimportant. Needless to say, that person did apologize, but my instincts told me that it was time for me to gather all my belongings and consider that bridge burnt. I have worked too hard and too long to let someone feel like they can run my business and make me feel worthless.

As a CEO/Business Owner, you will always be faced with making decisions. You may have to fight with decisions of change and organization or you may literally have to fight with the change in your pockets. One of the best decisions that I ever made when designing my brand was making sure that my team was never made to feel beneath me or that any one person would ever win; we would all win. Everyone that’s on this team holds the title of CEO. We are all equal, so no one is better than the other. No one person is the BOSS! We are all Chief Executive Officers. There is not a secretary or personal assistant, we are all CEOs over what we do. When someone ask who's the boss, we all laugh and ask them, "Which CEO would you like to speak with?"

You are probably saying… “That’s too much power LaLa!” No, it’s not! If a person feels like they are a part of your organization and you truly appreciate their input, they will deliver a powerful experience. You were given a gift and talent to teach and share with others, not become selfish and hold on to that. Fulfilling your own dream and not helping others to build a platform for them to grow, numbers your days and you will never prosper that way.

In the beginning, no one told me how lonely being a CEO could be. I didn't have many trusted mentors and no one wanted to point me in the right direction, so I was stuck trying to pave my own way, but as soon as I started surrounding myself with like-minded people who could relate, there was light at the end of my brand tunnel. So for all you lonely CEO’s out there, I want to offer you the opportunity to be among other CEO’s. I want you to feel the same love, encouragement and uplifting that I receive from my team and associates. This is an awesome feeling and being able to connect with others and make new biz pals is how we can work past those feelings and see the growth in your business/brand. The words Boss, Supervisor, Shift Leader or Team Leader does not exist in my world. Everyone is a CEO, because everyone is IMPORTANT and they feel on top. There are no questions of “Who Really Won at Being the Boss,” because we all WIN AT BEING A CEO!
